Through the Rochester area Churches of Christ fundraising efforts last year, we were able to raise over thousand dollars for the college. As a result we have been awarded a full two-year scholarship for the upcoming school year.

Mr. Henry Higdon II is the 2002 recipient of the SwCC scholarship. Ms. Shonesah Reese, a graduate of Irondequoit High School is the recipient for the school year 2001. Mr. Brandon Booth, the scholarship recipient in 2000 completed his studies at Southwestern and is currently attending Abilene Christian University. See below for details.

For every year the committee (with your support) raises over ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00), we will be granted a scholarship, which will be awarded to a Rochester student. The first year acceptance to SwCC is automatically based solely on being awarded the scholarship. The second year renewal is based entirely on the student's academic performance and department.

Please continue to support our efforts as we strive to support the school and aid in the development of our young people.

Scholarship Recipients

Brandon Booth - 2000

Brandon Booth and East High 2001 graduate was the first recipient of our scholarship award. He graduated from SwCC this spring, and continues his studies at Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas. Brandon has always shown an expressed appreciation for having been chosen to receive this honor. If you engage him in conversation it won't be long before he is telling you of his SwCC experiences and how grateful he is for all who have contributed to his education. This was his golden opportunity on the road to pursuing his dreams of a career in counseling or psychology. Brandon sends his best wishes and promises that one day soon he will become an advocate for the pursuit of higher education and help other deserving young people to realize their dreams.

Shonesha Reese - 2001

Shonesha Reese is the scholarship recipient for 2002 where she served as president of the only all-female, Christian, sorority on campus, Kappa Phi Delta. She was the director for the Chorus and the student director of the female ensemble, Anointed. She was also resident assistant in her dorm as well as Vice-President of the student body. In November of 2001, Shonesha was Miss. Homecoming Queen 2002. “I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support. You all are the only reason that I am here and I thank you, “ says Shonesha.  Shonesha was crowned Miss. Southwestern in 2003.

Shonesha will be entering basic training for the armed forces in June of 2004.

Henry Higdon III - 2002

Dear SWCC committee members, contributors and community benefactors: I thank all of you who have labored tirelessly to ensure me the opportunity to attend Southwestern Christian College on the Dinner Day Scholarship. Had it not been for your generous acts of love through fund raising and contributions my dream of being a minister may have only been a dream void of realization. Your dedicated and consistent support has not only provided me, but also other students an opportunity to receive a Christian education. I am a Student Support Services Master Tutor. I have 50 students under my supervision. I tutor these students in study group teams. Our goal is to graduate a high percentage of students. I have also substituted twice for one of the faculty members. I have spoken in chapel and sing quite often. God is using me to evangelize the campus person by person from deed to doctrine. I am truly enjoying myself here. I thank God for making your efforts a true force in my life. Lord's willing I will see you soon. As you all know I am engaged to be married to a beautiful Christian woman who I met while attending a gospel meeting as a guest song leader. Her name is Robin Troupe and she is Micro lab personnel. She currently has a BS in Microbiology and works in the micro lab in Valdosta. I am just too thankful, and yet still quite overwhelmed that God chose me to show his love through a woman fit for his use and still complimentary of my spirit and soul. Thank you again. I love you all with God's love and speed, I am because of him, Henry S. Higdon III

18 Years Old
Born in Rochester, NY

Graduation Date: June 26, 2004

School Graduated From: Rush-Henrietta Sr. High-School

Future Goals: My future goals are to become a well respected gospel preacher, touching the hearts of those who do not know the Lord. I will try my hardest to seek and save the lost. I will also strive to strengthen the Lord's Kingdom. My biggest goal is to preach the word of God to those who don't know the Lord, so there souls may be saved and so that we can keep their souls saved.
