The Single's Support Group at the East Henrietta Road congregation initiated by Brother Jerry Houston on February 18, 1999. The Group meets weekly on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. The support Group is not just for the traditional single individual but caters to all singles, i.e., widows, single parents, single again, members, non-members, etc. The facilitators at the meeting open up the floor for discussions on topics which are a concern to singles in the Church. These concerns are responded to with scriptural answers. The singles are planning several activities for fun and fellowship. This area of ministry is one area that is overlooked in the Church today. However, we must not forget that two important individuals were single, Jesus Christ and apostle Paul. The growing Church of 2000 must be involved in an active Singles Ministry. Singles are the most flexible and transient part of society. Their biggest needs are fellowship, companionship, and involvement in the local church. In order to invest and build in this ministry we need to determine the needs of East Henrietta Road singles and build around their needs. One factor that must not be overlooked is that singles draw other singles, and the need for developing home studies, weekly Bible Classes to meet the group needs in a must to keep the interest and involvement going. Outreach is a vital chore of this ministry, and several things could be used such as single retreats, workshops, seminars on grief, divorce recover, single parenting to help meet the day to day realities of the single life. All singles are invited to share the spiritual growth that has been experienced thus far. |
